LADY'S PROCESS

DESIGN

Each print starts as a design; a drawing on paper. Claire's designs are routed out of her personal interests and hobbies. She often works from photographs she has taken. Claire is quick to say she doesn't copy her photographs. "What I want out of my art is the subjects essence. Have you ever shown a photo and said 'Well the photo doesn't show it, but . . .' What I strive for my images to be is the feeling from a place. The thing that I don't want to forget. The inspiration behind the photo."

CREATION

After the design has been created it is transfered onto a block where it is hand carved using a variety of shaped carving tools. When the block is finished the ink is rolled on by a brayer in multiple thin, layers. The paper is then laid over the block and hand pressed. Once the ink is fully dry the prints are hand painted with Schmincke professional grade watercolors. Hand painting in this way allows colors to be soft and warm, to have gradients and blending.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

Trained as a professional artist at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Claire knows the importance of every detail. Starting with the paper; all  prints are printed on hand torn, archival, acid free, professional paper ensuring your print will last to be an heirloom piece. After the printing process each print is carefully inspected to ensure no prints are sold with blurred/double images, too little ink, etc. For the finishing touch all prints are hand signed in pencil by Claire with the edition number , title, and her signature. All prints are held to the high standard of a fine art gallery.
